Count Osun Amotekun Out Of Shooting Allegations During Ikirun Masquerade Festival – PRO

The Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu Abass has told the general public to count it out of the shooting allegations being leveled against the Osun State Security Outfit during the recently held Masquerade Festival in Ikirun.

The Osun State Security Network Agency in a press release signed and circulated to pressmen on Saturday evening by its Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, denied the allegations circulating in certain quarters that its personnel were responsible for the shooting of a masquerade follower during a cultural festival held in Ikirun, Osun State.

He explained that the operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps were only officially invited to provide security and maintain peace and order throughout the event.

He went on to describe the incident which occurred during the Ikirun annual masquerade festival as an unfortunate one. 

According to Yusuf Idowu Abass, he said, “contrary to the false narratives being peddled, no Amotekun personnel intentionally or mistakenly fired at any individual.

“Clarifying the situation, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Chief (Dr) Honourable Adekunle Isaac Omoyele explained that during the course of duty at the event, some hoodlums launched an unprovoked attack on one of the Corps operatives. 

“In the course of attempting to disarm the officer, one of the attackers forcefully pulled the trigger, discharging a round from the firearm. Tragically, the bullet struck an innocent bystander, identified as a follower of the masquerade.

“The hoodlums, after executing this heinous act, fled the scene without successfully seizing the weapon. Swiftly, the Amotekun Corps reported the incident to the Nigeria Police Force, and both agencies have since commenced joint efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the violent disruption.

“The Osun Amotekun Corps reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the State.
