Ekiti NEMA Stakeholders Visit FMC, EKSUTH, Seek Collaborations To Prevent Outbreak Of Diseases, Disasters

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in Ekiti State has sought the support and collaborations of the stakeholders’ at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido Ekiti, and that of the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti to prevent the outbreak of diseases and disasters in Nigeria, most especially in Ekiti State.

The Ekiti State Head of Operations of NEMA, Mr Kadiri Olarewaju, who made the call during a courtesy visit to both the Federal Teaching Hospital (FMC), Ido-Ekiti and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti called on residents to refrain from activities capable of causing disasters in the state.

Olarewaju said that the visit became necessary for both institutions to work as a team in reducing outbreaks of diseases such as monkey pox, yellow fever, lassa fever in the Country, as well as for readiness of the hospital in ensuring effective response to disaster victims.

The NEMA Boss who was recently transferred to Ekiti State, said the visit was also to seek collaborations of the hospitals in ensuring safe and disaster- free environments, adding that hospitals  play a major role in reducing disasters by saving lives during emergencies. 

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi, who appreciated the visit of the NEMA officials, assured them of the necessary collaborations within the legal framework in attempt for NEMA to fulfill it’s mandate. 

He said that both institutions were known for human services and emergency rescue care, stressing that the hospital has capable hands in the emergency department.

Also, his counterpart, at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, EKSUTH represented by the Chairman Medical  Advisory Committee, CMAC, Prof. Dare Ogunlusi, said that preventive practices would limit the burden on the hospital and create a better life for Ekiti people. 

He added that the hospital has an effective department for infection control and emergency in ensuring that outbreak is reduced to it’s barest minimum in the state. 

He appreciated the visit of the NEMA team to the hospital saying that the hospital is ready to partner with them in reducing disasters in the State.
