Personal Greed Will Cause Opposition Coalition’s Failure In 2027, Adebayo Morakinyo Declares

The Chairman of the Kayode-Ojo Consultative Committee, Honourable Adebayo Morakinyo has sharply criticized the recent National Opposition Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, declaring that individuals personal greed will cause the failure of the opposition’s coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He dismissed the event as lacking the necessary cohesion and capacity to challenge President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The summit, organized by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, aimed to unite opposition forces against Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the Opposition Coalition Summit, participants outlined plans to field a single presidential candidate in 2027 to consolidate votes.
The gathering drew high-profile figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi also attended the summit.
New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the discussions.
Other notable attendees included former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Senate President David Mark.
Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was among the prominent opposition leaders present.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Morakinyo—a former Ekiti State House of Assembly member—acknowledged the value of a robust opposition.
He stressed that strong opposition drives democratic progress but voiced deep skepticism about this particular coalition.
Morakinyo argued that internal divisions and self-serving agendas among leaders would doom their efforts to failure.
He questioned whether the group could rally widespread support, regardless of their chosen candidate.
The coalition plans to select its nominee under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner.
Yet Morakinyo was of the view that the step alone wouldn’t overcome their organizational hurdles.
He pointed to post-2023 election fractures as proof of the opposition’s chronic disunity.
After the polls, figures scattered: some to Labour Party, Atiku stayed with PDP, and Kwankwaso launched NNPP with modest gains.
Morakinyo highlighted the APC’s stronghold, controlling about 32 governorships and dominating the National Assembly.
This dominance gives Tinubu a massive edge in resources and structures.
Governors and federal lawmakers will pour efforts into securing their states for the president’s re-election.
In Morakinyo’s view, no opposition “magic” can overcome the reality of votes in 2027.
