Key leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Efon Alaaye Local Government Area have hailed the conduct of the Saturday local government election in Efon and counselled the newly elected Chairman, Honourable Segun Afolabi, urging him to respect party leaders during his tenure in office.

The leaders who spoke differently with Treasure Newspaper after the poll on Saturday commended the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, EKSIEC, for their organization of the poll.

The newly elected Chairman, Honourable Segun Afolabi while reacting to the conduct of the election on Saturday, revealed that he casted his vote at ward 7, unit 5 infront of Olowoyeye’s house at Imoba in Efon Alaaye.

According to him, he said, “I am overwhelmingly happy with the people’s turn out. I mean how they trooped out in their large numbers to vote for me. I am really excited”.

Speaking about what the people of Efon Alaaye should expect from him, Honourable Afolabi promised to effect positive development of the town most especially in the area of Human Capital Development, Infrastructure, Agriculture and other areas.

Honourable Afolabi used the opportunity to solicit for the support of all the APC leaders in Efon Alaaye, promising to develop the Efon community with the support of his party leaders in the local government area.

Adding, he urged Efon people to remain calm and focused, and assures them that they are going to celebrate together.

In an interaction with Chief Dele Jeje, the Atayese of Efon Alaaye Kingdom, an APC stalwart in the local government, he also commended the peaceful conduct of the election by EKSIEC.

Chief Jeje attested that there was no problem, or rancour during the election, saying that voters moved freely in and out of the voting centres across the local government area, most especially at his Ward 3, polling unit 10 at Idagba where he voted.

“I am happy. I am an APC man right from the Awolowo era. I have been voting since 1959 in this town called Efon Alaaye. I have never changed my party”, he declared.

On the part of Professor Adio Folayan, the former Chairman of Efon local government area and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Ekiti State, who has been a politician of many years, at present, a farmer and a University Don, also voted at Ward 4, unit 12 at around 9:30am on Saturday.

Reacting to the victory of the APC in Efon, Professor Folayan, said, “he is not expecting anything less than success”. He went on to attribute the APC success in Efon to the absence of a viable opposition in place. “In Ekiti State, there is no opposition because government of the day is doing the bidding of the populace. Even, I am very sure that the opposition in the State are comfortable with the governance of the present administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

He however advised the newly elected Chairman to make use of the party working document and implement to the letter the six points agenda of the Governor of the State.

Folayan equally counselled him to always listen to people’s advise, attend to their needs and stay in his grassroot location, and not to be far away or neglect the people who voted him in.

Similarly, the Chief Isaac Folorunso Alake, the Erungbua of Obalu in Efon Alaaye Kingdom and the Leader of the All Progressives Congress in Efon Local Government Area, acknowledged God as one who has been helping him to maintain peace and unity within the Efon APC.

He also advised the new Chairman, Honourable Segun Afolabi to make sure that all the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Efon local government are carried along.

He urged him not to listen to miscreants who might want to prevent him from dancing to the tune of the Efon Alaaye community as a whole but ensure he does the work he was elected to do in the local government effectively and efficiently.

As early as 9am on Saturday, the Efon APC leader voted at his Ward 4, unit 12 infront of his house at Oniyo, in Efon Alaaye.

Also, speaking, the outgoing Chairman of Efon local government area, who doubled as the ALGON Chairman in Ekiti State, Engineer Stephen Olabode Adetunji, said, “he voted at ward 4, unit 12, infront of Chief Alake’s house.

“He said Efon Alaaye is more or less a one party local government today, adducing it to the recent activities of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as well as when over 300 People’s Democratic Party, PDP members in Efon decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Efon Alaaye.

“He said the victory of the APC in the local election was expected, and did not give any of the APC leaders in Efon anything cause to worry”.

He also advised the incoming Chairman, Honourable Segun Afolabi to get his immediate and long plan ready as he is getting set to hand over to him as the new Chairman for Efon local government, to pave the way for continuity and sustenance of what has been the vision of the Governor of the State as well as that of the Efon local government area which mainly focuses on Infrastructural development of the community.

He also reminded him to take as his priority the problems of erosion bedeviling Efon community and confront the security issues in the town.
