The immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogundeji Iroju has said the faceoff between Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu and his Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has vindicated him politically in Ondo State just as he advised the Acting Governor in the State not to waste time in sacking the members of the cabal troubling the peace of the people of Ondo State and preventing the State from experiencing progress. 

Rt Honourable Ogundeji Iroju made the above statement on Sunday morning while responding to a phone interview with the Treasure Newspaper.

Rt Hon Ogundeji while speaking further with the Treasure Newspaper maintained that God Almighty has vindicated him and others who were victimised by the Akeredolu’s led Government in the constitutional crisis presently rocking the State vis-a-vis the Agboola Ajayi versus Akeredolu on one hand, and the battle to impeach him as the House of Assembly Deputy Speaker on the other hand. 

Honorable Iroju who was the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly during the Akeredolu and Agboola Ajayi’s administration said,  “Akeredolu is fond of constituting constitutional error with the help of his cabals thereby denying the people of Ondo State good governance.

He added “that the current situation in Ondo State is not caused by leadership crisis but constitutional crisis created courtesy of the Akeredolu’s desire not to follow or down to the tone of the people of the State.

“What is happening in Ondo State is constitutional crisis and not leadership crisis. The 1999 constitution as amended was clear about the happenings in Ondo State and anywhere such situation occurs.

“People said Akeredolu is incapacitated. I can’t confirm that but I can confirm he is sick. He should properly hand over power to his Deputy”, he declared. 

The former lawmaker maintained that for almost a year, Ondo State is yet to get anything it can call governance in the  State.

He declared that Akeredolu, his wife, children and the so called cabals has deprived the people of Ondo State of good governance. 

“When I was the Deputy Speaker and I had issues with the Governor, because I don’t know how a Governor will have a Deputy and he will say the Deputy is not good and got another one, and said that the new one is not good again. This means nothing but that that Governor has to check himself.”

Honorable Ogundeji Iroju said “if within 7 years, Akeredolu wants to have 3 Deputies, then automatically something must be wrong somewhere and with that, the ailing Governor needs to check himself.

“When he wanted to impeach Agboola Ajayi with trumped up charges, I refused to join him and his Cabals at the time. Now again, his cabals have come up with another sets of allegations, that are also trumped up charges against Aiyedatiwa.

He disclosed that the allegations leveled against the erstwhile Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi and the incumbent Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa they referred to as gross misconduct cannot be substantiated.

“During Agboola’s matter, I told them they are the ones that have a problem and I told them if they can’t substantiate the claims they have against Agboola Ajayi, then, I for one cannot join them to impeached him. Now, the whole world can now see that I am vindicated by going against them in that impeachment plot”, he submitted. 

On the new Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that just got confirmed, Hon. Iroju advised him to make policies that will favour the people considering the fact that Ondo citizens have been denied good governance for a long time now.

“What the Ondo State people are expecting from him is to deliver good governance to their door steps because the allegations of Omoyele Sowore that N7.9 billion was expended on security votes cannot be untrue because I heard about it myself. 

It is not only the N7.9 billion. There was another allegation of N4.3 billion that was said to be missing and nothing has been said or held about the missing money so far.

On what the outcome of the Guber elections will likely be, the Rt. honorable Iroju explained that the decision lies on the people.

“I believe the electorate and the general public has seen the difference between the PDP and the APC now. I know that it is the electorates of Ondo State who will determine the choice in the next election to come shortly.

He however advised the Acting Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to sack all the cabals nursing the 2024 Gubernatorial ambition and still loitering around in government.

“With the authority of Ondo State now in  Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s hand, he can hire and fire and so I will advise he shows those cabals their way out of government”.
