Anambra Police Arrest Five, Recovers Ammunitions

Police in Anambra State has announced that it has arrested five suspects in connection with various crimes in the State.

The Command also disclosed that it has recovered various ammunitions and weapons during a raid on the hideout of the suspects in an uncomplicated building located along Oko Ufuma expressway in Orumba North Local Government Area of the State.

In a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Ikenga Tochukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the suspects were arrested by the operatives attached to Oko divisional police headquarters after acting on a credible information in the early hours of Saturday.

He mentioned the names of the suspects to includes, Okechukwu Okpo, (24) an indegene of Ndobasi village, Ebonyi State, Chukwubike Anieto (20), Agulu, Chukwuemerie ike, (36), Agulu, Chidera muo (25) and Chukwuma isreal, (28)

Items recovers from the suspects includes, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges and three plasma television.

The PPRO said “the criminal gang on sighting the police vehicle opened fire on the operatives. The Operatives responded swiftly, engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle, while other gang members flee the scene, while Okechukwu was arrested” he stated.

He explained that preliminary investigations shows that the gang were responsible for over twenty-five armed robbery, kidnapping, car-snatching incidents that has happened along Oko Ufuma, Uga, Amaokpala expressway, among others.

In a similar development, on 9th of September, at about 11pm, Operatives attached to Neni in conjunction with the local security arrested one Chukwubike Anieto, from Agulu, Chukwuemerie ike and Agulu, Chidera muo aged (25) from Neni.

On interrogation by the police operatives, reveals that the gang attacked a police constable, dispossess him of his personal belonging along Umukabia Okofia village, Neni. Also most recently, the gang were caught in the act in an attempt to rob a lady of her belonging along Okofia village, Neni.

The Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng while charging the operatives to sustain the tempo on weeding out the criminal elements in the state, thereby enhancing public safety and peace, assures that the confidence repose on police shall not be taken for granted. All suspects shall be charge to court on the conclusion of the investigations.
