The Anambra State Police Command in connection with other sister security agencies have rescued a kidnap victim and apprehended two of the kidnappers involved in the kidnap and recover arms and vehicles found in the custody of the kidnap culprits.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command stated the above in a press release sent to the Treasure Newspaper on Tuesday evening.
According to DSP Ikenga, he said, “On the 11th of July, 2023 by 8:30pm, the joint security operatives attached to Forward Operating Base, FOB, while on patrol around Uga-Ezinifite Expressway in an attempt to stop two vehicles that drove suspiciously to beat security screening, a highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350 without plate number, was given a hot chase by the joint forces. The Operatives engaged the deadly gang in a gun battle and they abandon the two vehicles and took to their heels.
Ikenga revealed further that, “during the search conducted inside the vehicle, two automatic pump action guns, 11 live cartridges, a bag containing one walkie-talkie, one cell phone, and other incriminating items were recovered”.
Ikenga explained that further information observed showed evidence of blood stains on all the vehicles as they have escaped with bullet wounds.
The Anambra Police Command however advised the operators of public and private hospitals to admit but report anyone with a bullet wound or related injuries to the nearest Police Station.
Also, in a related development in the late hours of 11th of July, 2023 by 8:13 pm, policemen collaborating with the Anambra State Vigilantes at Ichida bus stop along the Ichida-Igboukwu expressway, rescued a kidnap victim, and neutralized two members of the notorious gang, and recover One Ak47 rifle with two pump action gun, two Ak47 magazine, thirty-two live ammunition and one highlander jeep belonging to the victim.
“Preliminary information reveals the deadly gang of Eight operating with two vehicles, a Grey Highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350, abducted to the victim in her Ash Highlander jeep. The victim was rescued unhurt and she has been debriefed”.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye while addressing the press during the parade of the weapons recovered from the kidnappers “warned the criminals in the state to change their ways and take advantage of the opportunities being offered by the Anambra State Government and be engaged in legitimate means of survival or be prepared to face discomfort in their criminal and illegal activities.
The Police Commissioner added, that, “in line with the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s directive, he revealed that his Command have resuscitated the Commissioner of Police Commendation Awards aimed at spurring officers to greatness while discharging their statutory duties with dedication, professionalism and improved service skills on the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the leadership of the Force”, he ended.
