BOUESTI VC Seeks Security Agencies’ Support to Sustain Campus Peace

The Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere-Ekiti, Professor Babatunde Omojola, has solicited the continued support of security agencies in Ekiti State to sustain peace and security within the University and its host community.

Professor Omojola made the appeal during courtesy visits to the Ekiti State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and the Ekiti State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ado-Ekiti. He led a delegation of the University’s Management team on the visits as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on institutional security.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the security agencies for their unwavering support and contributions to maintaining peace in the University and the larger Ikere-Ekiti community. He emphasised the need for a coordinated and multi-dimensional approach in addressing security challenges, noting that effective security requires synergy, strategic planning, and sustained commitment from all stakeholders.

Professor Omojola, who assumed office in January as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of BOUESTI, stressed that peace remains fundamental to societal growth and academic excellence.
“We are trusting God for greater cooperation as we continue to work together as partners in progress,” he said, adding that the visit was aimed at reinforcing the existing relationship between the University and security agencies.
He reaffirmed the University’s readiness to support initiatives that would guarantee the safety of students, staff and property, assuring that BOUESTI remains committed to working closely with all security agencies to promote peace within and around the campus.

In his response, the Corps Commander of the Ekiti State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), Brigadier General Ibukun Adewa (Rtd), congratulated Professor Omojola on his appointment as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University. He assured him of the Corps’ preparedness to provide the necessary support to safeguard lives and property within the University and its environs.
Brigadier General Adewa emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering and information sharing, describing it as a collective responsibility essential to preventing criminal activities. “When you see something, say something,” he advised.

Similarly, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ekiti State Command, Dr. N. Obi Bissong, fsi+, commended the University Management for the thoughtful visit and its proactive approach to security collaboration.
She underscored the critical role of partnerships between security agencies and tertiary institutions in sustaining peace and preventing potential threats. Dr Bissong assured the University of the DSS Command’s readiness to strengthen intelligence cooperation and maintain active collaboration aimed at preserving peace and tranquillity on campus and its surrounding community.
