BVAS Performs Smoothly in Anambra Governorship Election — KDI

The KIMPACT Development Initiative (KDI) has commended the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the ongoing Anambra State governorship election, describing it as largely smooth and efficient.

In a mid–election day briefing held at BON Hotels, Awka, KDI said BVAS devices worked optimally in 95.6% of polling units monitored across the State. 

The group, under the Nigeria Election Violence Education and Resolution (NEVER) Project, noted that only a few polling units experienced minor network issues, while about 1.76% recorded device breakdowns that were quickly addressed.

KDI’s 370 trained observers were deployed across the 21 local government areas, 3 senatorial districts, and 11 federal constituencies of Anambra State. .

Reports received from 1,016 polling units showed that election materials and officials arrived early in 67.85% of locations, while 32.15% experienced late arrival. 

Voting, however, commenced after 8:45 a.m. in nearly half of the polling units due to delays caused by the absence of security personnel.

The organization explained that its Election Day Data Room (EDDR) in Awka serves as the central coordination hub for real-time election data, using the 9jaTalks reporting app to receive updates from field observers. KDI said the EDDR operates continuously to verify, analyze, and share credible findings with the public and relevant stakeholders.

KDI emphasized that the 2025 Anambra off-cycle governorship election is a critical test of Nigeria’s democratic resilience, especially ahead of the next general elections. The group said it remains committed to promoting transparency, peace, and credibility in the process, and will issue further updates as voting progresses.
