The Palace of Deji and the Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, The Odundun II has ordered the closure of markets and shops for the celebration of the Aheregbe Festival scheduled to commence on Tuesday, the 27th of August, 2024.

The Deji’s Palace in a statement signed on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kabiyesi, Prince Adeyeye Michael informed the residents of Akure, the Ondo State Capital and the people of the State, explaining that the closure is part of the measures needed to put in place to observe the age long tradition of the annual Aheregbe Festival.
The statement also added, that, there shall be no opening of markets, trading or opening of shops under any guise during the festival.
Also, residents, market women and shop owners are by the notice enjoined to comply with the Palace’s directive.
According to Prince Adeyeye, he revealed that, in view of the importance attached to the health sector, only the Pharmacy shops would be exempted from closure during the festival.

However, Palace stated that the festival will not in anyway restrict both human and vehicular movement in and around Akure, the Ondo State Capital.
