Disaster: Ekiti Needs More Patronage, Deputy Governor Tells NEMA

Ekiti State government has charged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to always prioritize the state in its programmes considering the statistics of disaster -related cases like flooding, fire and erosion in the state.

The state government appreciated the synergy with the federal government in the areas of disaster management and responses noting such efforts need to be improved upon to ensure palliatives reach more victims in the state.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye, made this known in her farewell message to the contingents of the agency under the Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention Programme ((SNELEI) who had been in the state for weeks for the distribution of relief materials to emergency victims.

According to the Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, Victor Ogunje, relief materials ranging from grinding machines, sprayers, food items, pumping machine, seedlings among others had been distributed across the state.

“We want to thank you for your diligence, probity and commitment since you have arrived Ekiti.
We desire more from your agency. Ekiti needs more relief materials and interventions as our needs are visible to you during the course of your stay. Oyebanji administration is a performance -driven government. We want to sustain this kind of partnership for the wellbeing of our people” the Deputy Governor stated.

The Permanent Secretaries, Office of the Deputy, Mr Bayo Opeyemi and Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Jide Borode applauded the team for demonstrating utmost professionalism in the handling of the materials and other challenges in the course of their duty in the State.

In her response, the team leader of NEMA, Mrs Nwamaka Chidi Aroh showered praises on the Ekiti government for its display of rare hospitality and utmost demonstration of good governance in the course of the distribution of relief materials in the State.

“I am particularly impressed with the positive attitude of the Deputy Governor. She is always in touch to see to our concerns. She is a rare mother”.

She acknowledged the fact that the State needs more responses on disaster matters promising the message would be conveyed to NEMA management.
