We have observed with serious concern and disappointment, the state of a major road in Ekiti State.

We have observed with serious concern and disappointment, the state  of a major road in Ekiti State that connects Ado-Ekiti, the State capital from Osun State. 

During our tour of the roads in question that connects Ita-awure-Aramoko-Igede-Iyin and Ado-Ekiti. Igede-Aramoko- Erio-Ekiti, it was discovered that motorists have now chosen to abandon the road.

What was found on ground during the tour was shocking and indescribable as the road is now desolate and totally deserted by motorists. 

Flash back to how the road was one of the busiest roads in Ekiti State, it is now incomprehensible that the road can now be in such a deplorable state.

With the hues and cry from the people and the isolation of the road by motorists who are now finding unavailable alternate routes to get to the State capital from the towns that leads to it, it seems there’s no hope in sight for its rehabilitation by the government to cushion the effect of the pains, unnecessary delays and sufferings that are confronting the people in an attempt to make use of the road.

In spite of the hardship being faced on the road by the people of Iyin, Igede, Aramoko, Erio and Ita-awure and Efon-Alaaye, among others, it is disheartening to still see and hear that there will be people who will mobilize and transport themselves through this road that is already a death trap to attend the recent State Wide Endorsement of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for a second term in office in Ado- Ekiti, the State capital.

At the moment, both public and private motorists as well as passengers have chosen to stop plying the routes again to avoid having negative impacts on their vehicles and physical being.

Several times, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has implored Nigerians to call their State Governors to questioning on what they are doing with the huge allocations they have been getting from the Federal government since his assumption of Office in 2023.

Apparently, the State Governors have woefully failed to provide adequate answers to the President’s remarks as they have all kept quiet.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji prefers to devote his time and the resources of the State to pursue his own second term ambition at the expense of several road projects he supposed to have fixed to make life more bearable and comfortable for the people of the State. 

To Governor Oyebanji, pursuing his  second term in Office is worth better than the comfort, interest and good of the generality of the people of the State. 

Time for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration to beam its search light on all the States, particularly, Ekiti State to see what the humongous allocations to the States are used for, and ensure that the allocations are commensurate to the projects that Governor Oyebanji has been claiming that he has executed in the State.

With the state of the Ekiti roads, it is very clear that Ekiti State has returned to the primitive era.

While it is worrisome to see a major road leading to a State capital from another State in such a pitiable and deplorable state, despite the huge allocation the sitting Governor is getting from the Federation Account Allocation Committee and from the improved Internally Generated Revenue of the State, it will not be an over reaction if we tell President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ask Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to explain to Ekiti people that he seems to have been taking for a ride, how he has been applying the State funds.

We saw during the recent State Wide Endorsement Rally that was organised for Governor Oyebanji that none of those who were physically present like the former Governors, former Deputy Governors, former Senators, former Speakers, the government appointees at the State and Federal levels made any remark about the condition of Ekiti roads. All of them kept quiet and pretended as if all was well with the people of the State.

Now that virtually all the roads that link each of the compact towns from the State capital are impassable, the young generation in the State needs to rise up and defend their future, else the present crop of politicians in the State will continue to suppress the people and continue to do irreparable damage to their future. connects Ado-Ekiti, the State capital from Osun State.
