Editorial! Professor Adekunle Ajayi Bows Out As FETHI CMD With A Legacy Of Excellence

As Professor Ebenezer Adekunle Ajayi concludes his two-term tenure as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), he leaves behind a legacy of comprehensive transformation, stability, and institutional growth.

Taking the helm of an institution once grappling with financial distress, industrial friction, and a waning corporate image, Prof. Ajayi has successfully steered FETHI toward a new era of excellence, marked by significant improvements in infrastructure, human capital, and service delivery.

Major achievements recorded in the hospital under the Professor Ajayi’s administration include:

Staff Welfare and Management: As FETHI CMD, Professor Kunle Ajayi implemented staff promotions, cleared salary arrears, and upgraded over 300 workers. Recruited in excess of 1,400 pensionable workers and ensured prompt payment of salaries and allowances.

Human Capital Development: He enhanced staff training and development, with nearly over 400 nurses holding university degrees and postgraduate qualifications.

Infrastructure Development: Also, he  constructed new buildings, including the Accident and Emergency Unit, Physiotherapy Building, and Molecular Laboratory. Just as 

he Installed modern medical equipments, including new dialysis machines.

In terms of Administrative Reforms, this well exposed scholar restructured departments and units, eliminated bureaucracy, and improved communication systems.

Prof. Ajayi’s leadership has seen FETHI ranked among the top 10 most improved teaching hospitals in West Africa, with improved service delivery and patient satisfaction. His commitment to transparency and accountability earned FETHI the best Federal Government-Owned Teaching Hospital in the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard by the ICPC.

As he bows out, Prof. Ajayi’s legacy serves as a testament to the power of dedicated and transparent leadership in transforming public institutions.

This ebullient and committed leader by all standards deserves a big round of applause as he wraps up his tenure with flying colours. His dedication, expertise, and leadership style has made a lasting impact on the FETHI community.
