The Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu has threatened to report the Heads of the 18 local government areas in the State to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the total amount of N3 million they said have generated as Internally Generated Revenue for the period of one month.
Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State made the above statement in a video which has went viral on the social media.
Treasure Newspaper observed that Comrade Philip Shaibu in the said video was seen threatening to probe, arrest and dismissed any Head of the Local Government Administration (HOLGA) or Council Personnel involved in shady deals, resulting in the decline of the internally generated revenue (IGR) from the 18 local government areas of the State.
The Deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, gave the stern warning at the Government House in Benin City, during a close-door meeting with HOLGAs and the Local Government Liaison Officers.
Shaibu said “the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may be invited by the state government to look into the affairs of the councils”.

He said, “Only incompetence, abuse of office, lack of accountability and truancy, among others, can result in the 18 local government councils generating a paltry sum of N3 million monthly as internally generated revenue.”
Speaking angrily, Philip Shaibu said: “between now and end of May, 2023; I will personally do a letter for Governor to sack you people and before sacking, we will get the EFCC to check all your books”.
Emphasizing himself, he said, “we will get the EFCC to check all your books and you will be fired because things can continue like this. We will get the EFCC to investigate all of you, all your books. After the EFCC has checked you people, we will sack all of you because how can 18 local government areas generate N3million in a month as revenue”, he queried.

“We will invite EFCC to investigate your activities for the period under review and whoever that is culpable of any mismanagement will be sacked, arrested and be made to face prosecution in a competent court of jurisdiction,” Shaibu declared.
However, the Deputy Governor has since directed that the HOLGA’s and the liaison officers should immediately constitute a credible revenue task force across the 18 LGAs to ensure proper collection of revenue for the purpose of accountability forthwith.
