… Calls For More Attention To Solving Erosion Problems

The Chairman, Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Engineer Stephen Olabode Adetunji has rolled out his achievements while in office, calling on the government of Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the Governor of Ekiti State for more attention to solving the erosion and ecological problems being faced by the people of Efon in Ekiti State.
Engineer Adetunji, the Efon local government Chairman while speaking with Treasure Newspaper at his Country Home in Efon recently expressed concern about the ecological and erosion challenges in his community, pointing out that his own community is deficit of infrastructures and called for the State and Federal Government’s attention to solving them before it spills havoc and rendered many homeless again.
“The erosion problems in Efon local government has to be urgently addressed and it’s torrential effect nipped in the bud on time”, Adetunji declared.
While rolling out his achievements in office as the Efon local government Chairman, Engineer Adetunji stated that before him coming on board, described the security situations, most especially the security of lives and properties in his community as worrisome.
He however expressed fulfilment on his own part for able to restore peace back to the community within his own four years tenure in office as Chairman.
Also, he was elated for been able to get the erosion and ecological problems in areas such as Ijofi Tuntun and Igbo -Eye in Efon resolved by the Ekiti State government. He equally assured to continue to liaised with government to solve other erosion and ecological challenges in Efon community until his last day in office.
He acknowledged that erosion and ecological problems are clearly beyond the local government level, urging the incoming Chairman to leverage on what he has been able to do, to attract more interventions to Efon community for its erosion and ecological problems.
Speaking further on the insecurities issues in Efon before elected as Chairman, “Efon was a red zone in terms of security. People don’t even want to transversed the local government because of Kidnappers but today, I can say that, we are sleeping with our two eyes closed. The first assignment of any government is the security of lives and properties, and today, I thanked God that he has given us 100% there.
“On the other things that I have done, I have intervened on the General Hospital in Efon because a lot of things in the General Hospital were not nothing to write home about. When we came on board, we bought equipments for the Pregnant Women wards and put beds there.
“Lot’s of new equipments have been bought in the health centres.
On the acute water problems in Efon, he described water as life and attested that Efon is the only local government in Ekiti State that pays the bills of Water Corporation when it was shut down because of inability to sustain it. “Since then, my administration has intervened with various boreholes located at random locations in Efon which are helping the people.
In addition, my administration installed solar lights to provide electricity to major streets and locations in Efon community in line with the vision of Mr Governor’s Operation Light Up Ekiti initiative. Areas he lighted included Ikiran, Iloja, Ojodi, Isare and down to Irayo and then, to Idagba which was done few months into my administration.
He added that recently, he has started the installation of street lights from Ijoka and transversed Okeifa, Ejigan and down to Idagba. Also, from Itamesi, Inisa, Ojabalu and down to Ijoka.

“The history of electricity office building in Efon has span over 20 years that it was abandoned. When I came on board, we changed the roof and renovated it and its ready for commissioning.
“As a result of my position as the Chairman of ALGON in Ekiti State, I was able to build a Health Centre for ALGON and the renovation of the one in Efon, by fixing the interlockings there and completed bringing in equipments which are now ready for commissioning.
“My administration is also the only local government in Ekiti State that has done road projects. The first one we did, was the road at Itamesi / Ita-Iyanamesi, the centre of the town, which is about 1.2 kilometres costing about N92 million.

“Recently, at Irayo, we have been doing some road palliatives there every season. To prevent the road condition from becoming worse, there has been a continuous Asphalt road overlaying in Irayo and it has already been completed. We are waiting for the Governor or the Deputy Governor to come and commissioned these projects for us.
“We have also done our own bye-laws in the local government area. These bye-laws will be used to governs everybody here. And the copies have been circulated to the Iyalojas, and to all the stakeholders, and the artisans in the community.
“I am also leaving the leaders in Efon community and the traditional rulers more united than when I met them. Also, the crisis in our party in the local government has abated because of our timely responsiveness to it.
