Ekiti Government Trains Teachers, Care Givers Of Special Schools

… Advises Parents To Enrol Their Special Children In The Special Schools Across The State

The Office of the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion has organised a one-day training programme for Teachers and Care Givers in the Special Schools across the State with a call to parents having special children to register them in the Special Schools.

The Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Adetoun Agboola while speaking at the programme held at the Skills Acquisition Centre for Persons With Disabilities, Ilokun, Ado Ekiti commended the Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of Persons With Disabilities in the State.

She affirmed that her office would work assiduously on its objectives of ensuring the inclusion and development of Persons With Disabilities.

The Special Adviser said the topics of the training programme were well packaged to enhance the effectiveness of the teachers and caregivers.

She remarked that the teachers and care givers have the duty to support the children with special needs to use their God given potential and talents.

She assured Persons With Disabilities in the State of their inclusion in the people oriented programs of the government in Ekiti State under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

She however warned parents and the guardians of People With Disabilities not to see the Special Schools as a dumping ground for their disabled children. “What we want the parents to do is to work in partnership with the teachers, care givers and instructors in the special schools across the State and show love, care and affection to their special children.

She advised the teachers, care givers and instructors to always take proper care of the hygiene of the special children under their custody at the different special schools in the State.

The Special Adviser said, the training was focused on ensuring that the children with disabilities in the schools are given due care by their handlers.

Also, speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ekiti State, Mrs. Peju Babafemi said that the Governor has directed that the Office of Disability Affairs should be given a befitting office accomodation to enhance effective administration of issues of PWDs.

She commended the Office of the Special Adviser on Special Education and Inclusion for organising the impactful training programme.

Also, present at the meeting included the Special Adviser on Tertiary Education, Dr. Azeez; the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi and the Senior Special Assistant on Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso.
