Ekiti Governor Declares For Second Term Bid, Speaks On Party Unity

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in office, seeking widespread public endorsement and political support from stakeholders across the state.

Oyebanji made this declaration during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Central Working Committee at the party’s state secretariat in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

The governor emphasized his commitment to party unity, stating that he has no caucus within the APC and holds no grudges against anyone in the party.

Oyebanji said at the meeting that he has spent N130 billion on road construction and maintenance in one year, surpassing the state’s entire budget three years ago.

Also, the governor said his efforts have led to peaceful coexistence among the people, and he has engaged with opposition leaders to ensure effective resource management.

Oyebanji also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and recognition, urging party members to double their votes for the president’s second term bid.

The governor’s declaration comes after APC leaders in Ekiti Central Senatorial District endorsed him for the 2026 governorship election, reaffirming confidence in his leadership. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and former Deputy Governor Professor Modupe Adelabu led the endorsement, praising Oyebanji’s transformative leadership and commitment to development.

Governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Professor Olumuyiwa Babalola, has dismissed the endorsements, saying they won’t discourage the opposition from winning the 2026 gubernatorial election. Babalola emphasized that the ADC is building a strong movement and won’t be deterred by money politics or systemic obstacles.
