Ekiti Needs Roads, Water — Not Flyovers, Says ADC Governorship Candidate

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Ambassador Oluwadare Patrick Bejide, has criticized the construction of flyovers in the state, saying Ekiti urgently needs basic infrastructure such as roads, water, and security rather than projects that benefit only a few.

Bejide while addressing journalists at his Ado-Ekiti residence, where he said public funds must be directed toward projects that directly improve the daily lives of ordinary residents across the state.

According to him, most Ekiti residents, including farmers, traders, and commercial motorcycle riders, do not benefit from flyover projects, while many communities still struggle with bad roads and lack of potable water.

“Over 90 percent of Ekiti people will never use flyovers. There is no justification for building them when roads across the state remain untarred and impassable,” he said.

The ADC candidate said his administration would focus on restoring public trust in government, noting that many citizens now see governance as a means of self-enrichment rather than service to the people.

He described water supply as a critical emergency, lamenting the collapse of water infrastructure in the state and recalling that Ekiti once supplied water to neighboring states but now battles abandoned facilities and booster stations.

Bejide also promised to revive agriculture and grassroots development, saying Ekiti’s fertile land has been neglected despite its capacity to supply food to major cities, while local governments have been stripped of their developmental roles.

He dismissed claims that he was contesting as a placeholder, insisting he is in the race to win, and pledged fair taxation, improved security, and people-centered governance if elected.
