Rising from the Congress of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council for the month of February, 2025, a Vote Of Confidence has been passed on the State Chairman of the Union, in person of Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, after several motions were moved to berate and scold the statement recently issued and signed by the Registrar, Mr Ibrahim Mufutau of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti courtesy of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina for standing up for a member of the Union whose arrest was sponsored by the above named University administrators.

Following the resolutions of the Ekiti NUJ Congress held on Thursday, 27th of February, 2025; and signed by the State Secretary of the Union, Comrade O’Seun Ogunsakin, “the Congress resolved to pass a Vote of Confidence on its State Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi for ensuring the quick release of Dr Yemi Agbeleoba and for standing by his position, that the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti was behind the arrest of Dr Yemi Agbeleoba.

In addition, the Congress hailed the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele for facilitating a new Federal University into Ekiti State, as well as his continued support for journalists in the State, and reminded him of his pledge to build a befitting Press Centre for the Union.

The Union also commended the duo for the increased Federal presence in the State, and specially appreciated the Governor for his cordial relationship with the Ekiti Caucus of the National Assembly in Abuja.

Equally, the Union expressed delight on the medical breakthrough recorded by the newly established Federal Medical Centre, Ikole Ekiti, and urged the Federal Government to provide state-of-the-art equipment for the centre.

On domestic violence concerns, the congress expressed deep concerns about rising cases of domestic violence, calling on parents to conduct background checks and urging government agencies and NGOs to embarked on massive sensitization campaigns.

The Congress also pointed out the urgent need to prepare ahead for flooding in the State, by sensitizing the members of the public residents in the State to clear out their drains in preparation for the raining season to prevent flooding.
