Ekiti: Oluyede Inaugurates Campaign Committee, Names Deji Ogunsakin As Deputy

The Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the Governorship Election taking place in June 20th, 2026 State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede has officially inaugurated his campaign council and named Honourable Deji Ogunsakin, a one time local government Chairman for Ado Ekiti, in Ekiti as his Deputy Governorship candidate. 

Also, a former Ekiti State Chairman and Southwest National Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Ogundipe Makanjuola was appointed as the Director General of Oluwole Oluyede Campaign Council, the current State of the PDP in Ekiti State, His Excellency, former Acting Governor and House of Assembly Speaker in Ekiti State, Rt Honourable Olatunji Odeyemi will serve as the Chairman of the Campaign Council while the State Secretary of the party, Honourable Kole Abiodun will also serve as the Campaign Council Secretary.

Others appointed includes the Deputy Director General for Field Operations, Honourable Segun Adekola, the Deputy Director General, Strategy and Research, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, the Press Secretary of the Campaign Council, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the Director of Media and Communication, Chief Sanya Atofarati and well as the Media Adviser to the Governorship Candidate, Mr Gani Salau. 

Speaking to journalists after announcing the names, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Honourable Deji Ogunsakin, thanked Dr Wole Oluyede for nominating him as his running mate. 

He used the opportunity to send a note of caution to the ruling All Progressives Congress not cease all efforts in interfering in the affairs of the opposition political parties in Ekiti State, most especially the People’s Democratic Party.

He said the PDP will not be worried over the decision of the former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s choice to support the incumbent Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the June 20, 2026 governorship race.

He also assured the supporters of the PDP and the general populace in the State that PDP is determined to continue to move forward with or without Fayose. 

Earlier while addressing the gathering of PDP faithfuls who converged at Ikere Ekiti, his country home, Dr Oluwole Oluyede officially made public his decision to pick Honourable Deji Ogunsakin as his running mate.

He thanked her co-aspirant, Mrs Funmi Ogun for deeming it fit to withdraw the court case she instituted against the primary election exercise which produced him as the party’s flag bearer.

He also revealed that he has at several times reached out, and appealed to Dr Funso Ayeni to join hands with him and work for the success of the PDP but refused. 

Dr Oluwole Oluyede also informed the gathering of the PDP leaders and stakeholders in Ekiti how the incumbent Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde also called and appealed to Dr Funso Ayeni to withdraw his court case but refused. 

Speaking further, Dr Oluyede said, as the leader of the PDP in Ekiti State, that he is requesting and pleading with Dr Funso Ayeni to withdraw his court case and join him as the candidate of the party for the election scheduled for June 20th, 2026.

Adding, Dr Oluwole Oluyede announced a total figure of 20,000 people who will form his Campaign Council ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State. 

He said at least 10 members of the party in each of the 2044 units across Ekiti State will be part of the Campaign Council. 

He urged Ekiti PDP members and people of Ekiti State in general not to be worried about the issue with INEC, saying the matter has only helped him become popular in the State.

He pointed out that the only campaign slogan in the mouth of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State in recent times was that his name has been removed from INEC, urging his supporters not to be worried.
