The Ekiti State Police Command has foiled a fake kidnap plot involving an ex-student of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Helen Kayode.

According to the Police, Kayode masterminded a false information spread on social media, sparking widespread concern.
According to SP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Command made the above known in a press statement released on Friday, the 2nd of May, 2025 after the command received a distress call from a family member reporting Kayode’s alleged kidnapping case between Iworoko-Ekiti and Ado-Ekiti on May 1, 2025.
Acting on the report, the Police apprehended Kayode’s boyfriend, Oluwanifemi Olusesan, based on a tip-off.
During the interrogation, Olusesan revealed that he was with Kayode the previous night before she left for Lagos in the early hours of May 2, 2025.

When contacted, Kayode confirmed her safe presence in Lagos and promised to return on May 3, 2025.
The Ekiti State Police Command has urged the public to disregard the false information and reassured citizens of the state’s safety and security.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, warned against creating and publishing false information that could cause unnecessary tension in the State.

The Police command however expressed the readiness to prosecute anyone found guilty of spreading false information.
The public has also been advised to verify information before sharing it to avoid spreading false news.
