The Ekiti State Government, has appealed to Olupole of Ipole Iloro, Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Ezekiel Babatola Oladele, to resolve the crisis surrounding the installation of a new Edinmo Chieftaincy title holder in the town.
The State Government, said the Monarch’s swift action in settling the brewing crisis over the installation would avert internal restiveness that could threaten the peace and stability of the town.
The Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, made the appeal, on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, while mediating in the chieftaincy tussle brewing in the community over the installation of new Edinmo outside Fayeba’s family .
The intervention was in respect of a letter dated 3rd February, 2023, singed by Isaac Fayeba of Edinmo’s family and addressed to the state government, accusing the monarch of depriving them the right to the chieftaincy title after the demise of their partriarch, Chief Kayode Fayeba, who reigned for 70 years.
The letter deposed to by the Lawyer to the head of Edinmo’s family, Mr. Isaac Adegboyega Fayeba, explained that Edinmo chieftaincy title, had never been ceded to another family in history except Fayeba, describing Kabiyesi’s action as a flagrant violation of the State’s Chiefs Law.
But addressing the two parties in her office, on Thursday, the deputy governor appealed to the monarch to look at the matter dispassionately and allow for compromise in the overall interest of the town.
Mrs Afuye added that another date would be conveyed to the feuding parties to accommodate the Kingmakers, who were absent at the meeting to make their contributions about the history surrounding Edinmo chieftaincy to guide the government on its actions.
Oba Oladele, who praised the deputy governor for his depth knowledge about culture and tradition, promised to submit himself to any action that will be taken by the government to resolve the dispute expeditiously .
The monarch, said he won’t do anything that will shortchange anyone or violate the culture and tradition of his people.
Also in his response, Mr. Fayeba, on behalf of the family, promised to embrace the peace moves being initiated by the government to settle the matter in the interest of the community.
Ipole Iloro, is the host community for the Arinta Waterfall, one of the best tourist attractions in Ekiti State.
