Ensure Prosecution Of Electoral Offenders, YIAGA Africa Tells Police, Others

The YIAGA Africa has called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure the prosecution of all electoral offenders found culpable during the Saturday November 16th Ondo State Governorship Election in the State

The YIAGA Africa made the above call while addressing journalists during its pre-election press briefing addressed by the Chair of the 2024 Ondo Election Mission, Ezenwa Nwagwu and the Director of Programs, Cynthia Mbamalu on Thursday at the Dejavu Hotel, Alagbaka, Akure in Ondo State. 

According to Ezenwa Nwagwu and Cynthia Mbamalu, they urged the Police and other security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of every individual involved in electoral malpractices during the Saturday election across the 18 local government areas of the State. 

Adding, they stressed the need for the security agencies to work closely with INEC as the electoral umpire by ensuring coordinated and efficient logistics management and deployment, timely communication and collaboration thereby addressing any security challenges that may arise. 

YIAGA Africa also urged the security agencies to remain impartial throughout the voting and the results collation processes, urging them to deploy early enough to manage the security of election personnels and electoral materials in the elections.

Also, they called on the security agencies to safeguard the media, observers and election workers. 

They also want the security agencies to strictly enforce laws and regulations against voters inducement, vote-buying, ballot box snatching and other electoral malpractices, by arresting and prospecting individuals and groups found engaging in illegal activities.
