Explosion Rocks Ibadan As Oyo Government Calls For Probe

A serious explosion has been reported to have occurred in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital on Tuesday evening just as the Oyo State government has called for a probe into it, and urging the residents of the State Capital to be calm. 

The Oyo State Government expressed the readiness to investigate the explosion that rocked Ibadan city on Tuesday, with a view to determine its cause.

According to eye witnesses account, it was said that loud bang was heard around Agbowo, Samonda, Sango, Orogun and Bodija areas of the city on Tuesday evening, causing panic.

“The Oyo State Government in its statement acknowledged the occurrences of reports of an explosion in Ibadan. Residents were urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident,” the state government said on Tuesday evening.

Some residents revealed that the explosion came from a gas plant.

“I just confirmed that the explosion was caused by Gasland at Samonda, close to Aerodrome Estate. It rocked many areas in the city and affected businesses,” a resident of Samonda told newsmen. 

Another source in the area said he heard it was a gas explosion.

“Many windows in the areas were shattered by the explosion; everyone first thought it was a bomb but we later got to know that it was from a gas plant,” the source said.

However, efforts to reach the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso and the State Fire Service to ascertain what happened failed.
