Son of Chief Samuel Bandele Falegan, a staunch leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the late opposition figure in Ekiti State, Honourable Opeyemi David Falegan has faulted the construction of a second flyover Bridge in Ekiti State, saying the decision is a ruse and a conduit pipe to siphon away the resources of the State.

Honourable Opeyemi Falegan, a popular philanthropist and humanitarian in Ekiti State stated the above in a statement he personally signed and sent to Treasure Newspaper in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday morning.

He described the second flyover bridge as a financial burden for the State.

According to him, spending billions of Naira on such a lucrative project in this economic hardship is quite insensitive, when the funds could be channeled on a sustainable agricultural mechanization (mechanised farming ) which will contribute significantly to the development of value chains and food system in Ekiti State.

Falegan argued further that investing in agriculture on a larger scale has the potential to render post harvest, processing and marketing activities within and even outside the state, which would reduce poverty and achieve food security while improving people’s livelihoods and also creating employment for people.

He also added that funds to be wasted on the second bridge should have been channeled to fix the Ekiti roads that are now death trap, thereby properly linking up all towns and villages in the State.

He called on the current government in Ekiti State to direct it’s energy on repairing the roads that would boost the agricultural value chain, fix the poorly connected towns and villages roads, thereby improving and increasing food production to solve the problem of hunger in the State.

He also described the plans to build a second flyover as selfish, insincere, callous and deceptive. “Pretending to love the people by embarking on white elephant projects that has no direct benefit on people’s welfare and economic value of the state tends to only enrich the pockets of the promoters of such an idea”.
