.… Charges Journalists To Maintain Discipline

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone B has called on the Southwest Governors as well as the Federal Government in the Country to as a matter of urgency and importance fixed the major roads in the Zone.

The NUJ Zone B also charged journalists across the Southwest States and beyond to maintain discipline while carrying out their daily activities as media men and women. 

The above decisions were contained in a communique issued and signed by the Southwest Zone B Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union, Comrade Abdul Razzaq Alege, at the end of the meeting held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital recently. 

Reading out the communique by the Drafting Committee headed by the Chairman of the Ekiti State NUJ Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, along with two others namely; Comrade Bunmi from Ogun State NUJ Council and Comrade Meshach Olaoluwa, from the Ondo State NUJ Council; emphasized on the urgent need for the Southwest Governors of Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo States to prioritize the roads repair in the Zone.

The Communique Drafting Committee also stressed the need for journalists to be discipline and be orderly while carrying it’s professional and constitutional duties. 

Journalists were also warned against the act of indiscipline, insubordination, and disrespect towards council leadership, cautioning that erring members would henceforth face sanctions.

Equally, the NUJ Zone B appreciated the Amnesty International for organizing a capacity-building workshop for journalists and encouraged other organizations to follow suit. 

The Southwest State Councils leadership were also urged to organize step-down trainings for knowledge sharing.

Additionallly, the NUJ Zone B used the opportunity of the meeting to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to instruct the Ministry of Works to repair several federal roads in the Southwest, citing their impact on the economy and the citizens. 

They listed the roads to include: Ado to Ilesa Road, Ibadan to Ilesha, Akure Road to Ibadan, Odeda to Abeokuta Road, Akure to Owo, Ikare to Kabba Road, Ado to Omuo and Ekiti to Kabba Road among many others.
