“Fraudulent Mandate, Failed Government”: Adelusi declares Oyebanji administration a disaster
A journalist and former Chief Press Secretary to a former state governor, Idowu Oluwole Adelusi, has launched a blistering attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of Biodun Oyebanji, branding the administration a monumental failure imposed on the people of Ekiti.
Adelusi, who currently serves as Press Secretary to the Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation, alleged that Oyebanji’s rise to power in 2022 was not a product of the people’s will but the outcome of election results manipulation orchestrated through state institutions. According to him, a government that “stumbled into power without sweat” has predictably failed to deliver meaningful governance.
In a strongly worded statement issued in Ado Ekiti, Adelusi accused the administration of presiding over unprecedented financial inflows with nothing to show for it.
He claimed that over ₦1.2 trillion has accrued to the state under Oyebanji, yet Ekiti remains plagued by decaying infrastructure, abandoned projects, and worsening living conditions.
“What we are witnessing is reckless profligacy on a grand scale,” Adelusi declared, describing the government’s spending pattern as wasteful and the Biblical “Omo oninakuna.”
Taking direct aim at the administration’s flagship projects, Adelusi dismissed the much-publicized Ekiti Cargo Airport as a deceptive claim.
He insisted the project was conceived and initiated under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration of former governor Ayo Fayose, accusing the current government of distorting its original vision and delivering what he called a “mere glorified airstrip dressed up as an airport.”
He also sounded the alarm over the controversial Okejigbo flyover in Ado Ekiti, describing it as both delayed and dangerously substandard.
Citing expert opinion, Adelusi warned that the structure, allegedly handled by unqualified personnel, poses a looming risk to public safety.
Drawing comparisons with past PDP administrations, Adelusi praised former governors Segun Oni and Fayose for delivering visible development despite receiving far less federal allocation.
He argued that their records stand in stark contrast to what he termed the “empty, hollow governance” of the current administration.
He further lambasted the state of infrastructure across Ekiti, noting that while a few roads in the capital receive cosmetic attention, the majority—especially in rural communities—remain in deplorable condition.
Adelusi added that during the PDP administrations of former governors, all federal roads received proper attention and were made passable.
According to him, the former governors maintained that Ekiti people use those roads regardless of their classification, and what truly matters to the people is not whether a road is federal or state-owned, but that it is in good condition.
Adelusi questioned the rationale for granting a second term to what he described as a non-performing government.
“A governor whose loudest achievement is merely paying salaries has no moral justification to seek re-election,” he stated.
“Ekitikete, I have torn the mask off the failed government of Oyebanji for all to see. The APC thinks you are gullible, that your future can be bought and your voices silenced—but they are wrong! You are Omoluabi—people of honour, courage, and integrity. This is the moment to rise, reject their lies, reject their inducements, and take back your destiny. Never again should your votes be sold to those who have only brought hardship and disappointment!”
Almost four years in existence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not visited Ekiti State because Oyebanji government doesn’t have project for Tinubu to commission except payment of workers salary.
He called for massive support for the PDP governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, portraying him as a credible alternative untainted by the excesses of power.
According to Adelusi, an Oluyede administration would usher in transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public funds.
“Ekiti people must rise, reject this failed experiment, and reclaim their future,” he concluded.
