Kayode Ojo Cries Out Over Arrests Of  Supporters

One of the interested Governorship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State ahead of the 2026 Governorship Election in Ekiti State, Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo has cried out over the arrests of his loyal supporters in the State. 

He also berated the Ekiti State Police Command for engaging in frequent politically motivated arrests of his loyal supporters ahead of the October 27th, 2025 APC party primary in the State. 

Engineer Kayode Ojo in a statement made available to the media on Thursday through his media aide, Alhaji Deji Aiyelabowo, frowned at the arrest of members of the Party who are his followers when they were holding their weekly meeting at Igede-Ekiti yesterday by members of the Ekiti State Police Command.

Speaking further, Alhaji Deji Aiyelabowo, said “two of the Party members who are both followers and loyalists of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo in the Party were arrested by the Police under the guise of involving in armed robbery attempt in the town and subsequently whisked away to the Police Headquarters in Ado Ekiti, where they are still being held”.

According to Engineer Kayode Ojo, the two men including other members were at the meeting venue when some people came in to accost them to demand for reason why their vehicles were parked on the road to prevent free flow of traffic and, before anybody could say Jack Robinson, policemen from the Ekiti State Command had invaded the venue of the meeting, and arrested the two of the Party members and tagged them as armed robbery gang and took them away”.

Engineer Kayode Ojo drew reference to a similar occurrence at Ikoro-Ekiti about three months ago when the Party Ward Chairman and two others were arrested in the town at the middle of the night alleging similar offence and took them to Ado-Ekiti for detention at the Headquarters of the RRS where they were detained for days and eventually released after when nothing incriminating was found in their possession.

With this development again, Engineer Ojo is appealing to the Inspector General of Police to prevail on the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police from allowing his men to embark on embarrassment and incessant invasion and arrests of his Party members on trump up charges while holding their meetings as allowed by the country’s constitution.

He called on the Inspector General of Police to address the issue of politically motivated arrests of his Party members in the State to safe the people from constant unwarranted embarrassments. 

Meanwhile, efforts to reach out to the Police Public Relations Officer, of the Ekiti State Police Command, SP Abutu Sunday proved abortive as messages sent were not replied.

Also, calls put across to him were not returned as at the time to filing this report.
