KDI Mulls Reduction Of Polling Units In Ondo

A Non-Governmental Organization, KIMPACT DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE, KDI, has mulled the need to decongest the number of polling units in the urban areas of the State as a result of increase numbers of voters since the last gubernatorial election in the State.

Disclosing this at a news briefing in Akure on Friday at the Royal Birds Hotel, the body explained that the measure is aimed at ensuring the early closing of election at the urban centres while it may likely end late at the local government level.

It posits that the election is likely to be the best in recent times, while also premising on the quality of training INEC gave its adhoc staff for 13 weeks.

According to the body, “We don’t expect any challenge around the logistics support from the electoral body. We should suspect sabotage if anything goes wrong contrary to the above view”.

KIMPACT believes that the election is well planned with election Officers understanding of the process, especially invalid votes and missing ballots, with the electoral body, INEC saying that expected political party should present 17 party agents in each of the polling units in the election.

According to them, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) deployed 100% party agents while the All Progressive Congress (APC) deployed 99% party agents.
