Lagos Sets For Local Government Poll In 24 Hours 

…. As LASIEC Chairman Reels Out Data For Election

Lagos State is set for another local government election in 24 hours time just as the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, Retired Honourable Justice Bola Okikiolu – Ighile briefed the press and reeled out detailed data for the Saturday, 12th July, 2025 election in the Centre of Excellence.

Reeling out the data on Thursday at a press briefing held at the Tripple C event hall in Yaba, Lagos State, the LASIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu – Ighile, accompanied by officials of the Commission, revealed that, 57 Chairmen; 57 Vice Chairmen and 376 Councillors will contest in the poll.

Adding, she revealed that, the election will take place in a total of 13,325 polling units with 7, 060,195 registered voters. She put the total of those who have so far collected their Permanent Voters Cards at 6, 214, 970 while the total number of uncollected permanent voters cards was said to be 845, 225. 

Out of the 19 registered political parties in Nigeria, 15 will be participating in the July 12th, 2025 local government election in Lagos State. 

She pleaded with the media to objectively plays it’s role of ensuring free, fair and credible local government election in Lagos State on Saturday by carrying out it’s functions of serving as watchdog, educating and bridging the gap between the electoral stakeholders and the general public. 

She also used the opportunity to admonished the political parties participating in the Saturday election, the Civil Society Organizations, Security Agencies, Youths, Persons With Disabilities, Market Men and Women Associations, Religious Bodies and other key stakeholders to continue to promote inclusivity and transparency.

She also revealed that non sensitive materials have already been deployed while the sensitive materials will be deployed on the eve of the election day in the presence of security agencies and political party agents to ensure safety and transparency for the process. 

Making her submissions, she called on the Lagos electorates to come out enmasse to cast their votes peacefully, explaining that the voting process will start by 8 am and ends by 3 pm, as those still on the queue by 3 pm will only be allowed to vote before the voting closes.
