Lagos Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa Hails Conduct Of LGA Poll Despite Low Turn Out

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Mudashiru Obasa has hailed the conduct of the local government election held on Saturday across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Area of the State despite the low turn out of voters in the election. 

Speaking with the press shortly after casting his vote, the House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Honourable Mudashiru Obasa at his polling unit 019, Ward E, located at Oluwole Olaniyan Street in the Orile Agege area of Lagos. 

Obasa described the conduct of the local government election peaceful, with no or less irregularities with no form of violence in the State. 

“So far, the process has been peaceful and without any form of rancour or disruption. It’s encouraging to see people coming out to exercise their democratic rights,” Obasa stated.

He further commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for its efforts in ensuring a smooth electoral process, emphasizing that peaceful elections are a cornerstone of democracy and good governance.

The Speaker called on eligible voters across the state who were yet to vote to come out in large numbers and participate in shaping the future of their local councils.

“It is important that we all take part in this process. Voting is not just a right but a responsibility, and I urge everyone to fulfil this civic duty,” he said.

Rt. Hon. Obasa also expressed optimism that the outcomes of the election would reflect the will of the people, stressing the need for transparency, fairness, and credibility throughout the electoral process.

As voting continues in various parts of Lagos, stakeholders are hopeful that the peaceful atmosphere witnessed so far will be sustained until the conclusion of the exercise.
