NEMA Ekiti Visits Accident Victims At Hospital

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in Ekiti State has visited victims of Thursday’s accident which claimed nine lives, at the Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

The Head of Operation of NEMA for Ondo, Osun and Ekiti States, Mr Olarewaju Kadiri who was represented by the Mr Azeez Simisaye, the Head of Search and Rescue Department, Ekiti Operation Office expressed worry over the unfortunate incident. 

Kadiri while speaking with the Treasure Newspaper warned motorists against over speeding and overloading of passengers, saying that drivers must be vigilant and observe all safety rules and regulations.

He appealed to motorists to always ensure that their cars are in good shape before embarking on a journey. 

The Deputy Chief Medical Director, Mr Akinmade Akinola while receiving the NEMA officials at his office appreciated the visit which he described as a great one.

According to him, 10 victims were brought to the hospital, but six had been discharged after receiving treatment.

The Deputy CMD added that others would be discharged as soon as they have been stabilized and given a clean bill of health to go home.

In an interview with the Federal Road Safety Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Mr Olusola Joseph, he refuted the claim that 19 persons died and used the opportunity to reveal that the two affected vehicles only had a total of 17 passengers.

The Ekiti FRSC boss explained that it was an head on collision between an 18-passenger bus and a Toyota car when one of the vehicles was trying to dodge a pothole and lost control, and collided with the oncoming vehicle traveling to Ado Ekiti.

The Sector Commander clarified that seven passengers lost their lives and the victims had been deposited at the morgue.
