Nigeria To Host Twitter Space On Protecting Women Journalists

The International Press Centre (IPC) in Lagos, Nigeria, is set to host a Twitter Space conversation on November 3, 2025, to address the growing threats faced by women journalists in both digital and physical spaces. 

This event coincides with the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (IDEI), an annual global event declared by UNESCO and adopted by the UN General Assembly.

The event theme centers on raising awareness on AI-facilitated Gender-Based Violence against Women Journalists”.

Four prominent panelists will share insights on addressing threats to women journalists: Anikeade Funke-Treasure, IPC Board Member and Executive Director, Illuminate Nigeria; Ladi Bala, Former Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ); Ify Onyegbule, Director General, Imo Broadcasting Commission and Jadesola Ajibola, Executive Director, Gender Alive Foundation.

IPC’s Executive Director, Mr. Lanre Arogundade, emphasizes the need to prioritize journalist safety and end impunity for crimes against journalists, stating, “we cannot turn a blind eye to attacks against journalists as well as acts of intimidation and violence against journalists in Nigeria have to end for democracy to survive.”
