NPC Seeks Community Support For 2025/26 Mini NDHS In Ekiti

The National Population Commission (NPC), Ekiti State, has carried out an advocacy visit to Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Mini Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).

The visit, led by the Ekiti State Director of the Commission, Mr. Olayomi Gbenga Abayomi, was aimed at mobilising community support and securing the cooperation of residents and key stakeholders in Iyin Ekiti Cluster, one of the selected areas for the national survey.

Mr. Abayomi was accompanied by members of the NPC management team and officials from the Public Affairs Department during the advocacy tour.

Speaking during the visit, the NDHS Supervisor, Mrs. Falope Titilayo, explained that the survey would generate critical data on fertility levels, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, and other key health indicators across the country. She noted that the information gathered would guide policy decisions and interventions targeted at improving public health outcomes.

Mrs. Titilayo stressed that reliable data remains essential for effective health planning, adding that improved health conditions directly translate to better economic and social development. She urged community members to fully cooperate with field officers when the survey begins.

Also addressing stakeholders, Mr. Abayomi underscored the importance of the NDHS to national development, describing the exercise as a vital tool for evidence-based decision-making. He called on traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents of Iyin Ekiti to support the exercise by creating awareness and encouraging participation.

As part of the advocacy activities, the NPC delegation paid courtesy visits to key traditional institutions in the community to further strengthen grassroots support for the survey.

The Odofinyin of Iyin Ekiti commended the National Population Commission for its commitment to credible data generation, describing the NDHS as critical to understanding the health needs of the people. Similarly, the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti received the delegation warmly and offered prayers for the successful conduct of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey.

The 2025/2026 Mini NDHS is expected to provide up-to-date health and population data that will support government planning and improve service delivery across Nigeria.
