The Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti Kingdom, HRM, Oba Adeola Adeniyi, while emphasizing the relevance of traditional rulers, has called on the federal government to constitutionalise their roles in Nigeria, describing it as an advancement towards meaningful developments in the Country.

The monarch made this call while speaking with journalists in his palace in preparation towards the 2023 Iyin Day Celebrations, urging all sons and daughters of the community, home and abroad, to grace the occasion.

The monarch underscored the importance of the celebration, saying it would afford the Community an opportunity to brainstorm and chat a new course on the infrastructural development from both state and federal Government levels.

The 2023 Iyin Day Celebration, which is slated to hold on the 4th of November, 2023, is scheduled to feature, among others, chieftaincy honour of five illustrious sons and daughters of the town, in recognition of their contributions to both human and physical developments of the town, coupled with the raising of a two hundred-million naira fund for the development of the town. 

The monarch used the opportunity to applaud Governor Oyebanji’s one year in office, commending him for his developmental programmes and policies that have direct impact on the masses of the State. Adding that the massive development witnessed at the grassroots were occasioned by the autonomy the Governor enabled at the local government/LCDAs.

Buttressing his claims, the monarch argued that the autonomy has made Iyin-Ekiti witness development, being the headquarter of Araromi Local Council Development Area, and also brought governance closer to the people where dividends of democracy were enjoyed.

He further applauded the leadership style of Governor Oyebanji which he attributed to the relative peace and development currently witnessed in Ekiti State, saying, the governor’s humility, love and dedication to the well being of Ekiti residents are commendable.

Oba Ajakaiye, however, while appreciating the proposed Iyin-Ilawe roads rehabilitation, advocated for more federal government presence in Iyin-Ekiti.
