Ondo Governor Rewards Super Falcons’ Player, Tosin Demehin With ₦30 m, House

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, gifted Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin sum of ₦30 million cash reward and a house at Sunshine Estate in Oba-Ile, Akure, for her outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). 

Demehin, who hails from Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, played a crucial defensive role throughout the tournament, helping Nigeria emerge champions.

The governor made the announcement during a civic reception in Akure on August 4, 2025, held in honor of Ondo State indigenes who were part of the victorious Super Falcons squad.

Additionally, Governor Aiyedatiwa gifted Mary Akinsola, the team’s media officer, and Mary Oduboku, the team’s secretary, ₦15 million each in recognition of their roles in Nigeria’s historic win.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in the state, promising to invest in young talents, create enabling environments, and provide necessary resources for them to excel. 

He also pledged to support the Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure in their bid to return to the nation’s premier league. 

Tosin Demehin expressed heartfelt gratitude to the governor and the people of Ondo State for the warm reception and generous reward. 

She emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in growing Nigerian football, calling on stakeholders to rally behind the development of women’s football in the state.

This gesture by the Ondo State governor is seen as a motivation for upcoming athletes in the state, with the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for being the first State Governor to honor Super Falcons players and officials from the State.
