President Tinubu Announces End To Emergency Rule In Rivers State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced an end to the six months state of emergency rule in Rivers State today September 17th, 2025. 

The decision, according to the statement signed by the Senior Special Adviser on Media, Mr Bayo Onanuga comes after a thorough study of the situation on ground in the state, which shows a new spirit of understanding and readiness among stakeholders for a return to democratic governance.

The state of emergency was declared on March 18, 2025, due to a severe constitutional impasse between the Governor and the House of Assembly. 

Critical economic assets were being vandalized, and the Supreme Court had ruled that there was no functional government in the State.

The end of the state of emergency marks a new chapter in the state’s governance, with government expected to work together to address the challenges facing the state. 

The return to democratic governance is expected to boost economic activities, improve security, and enhance the overall well-being of the people of Rivers State.

President Tinubu’s decision to end the state of emergency show his commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law. 

The move is also seen as a positive step towards promoting peace, stability, and development in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
