Residents Lives In Danger As Rain Blows Off Public School Building, Houses In Ekiti

Residents of Agric Olope area of Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State are currently in palpable fear due to a rainfall that blows off some public schools buildings and houses on Sunday, the 7th of December, 2025, turning many people homeless, and exposing lives of some of the residents to danger. 

Some of the residents of the Agric Olope area who were pained by the development have come out in the open, seeking urgent assistance from the government as a result of the storm which affected several families leaving them homeless.

Two women resident in the area, whose houses were badly affected, spoke to reporters in Ado Ekiti on Thursday about their plights. 

First was one Mrs. Boboye Jumoke, who explained that she had just repaired one of her two buildings, borrowing money to do so, when the storm struck.

“The rain destroyed not just my roof but my windows too. I am struggling to survive and don’t know where to start from, appearing dejected at the time she was responding to questions from journalists”. 

Another resident shared that the house his son had built for her was badly damaged. “I have nowhere to go. Everything is gone. Please, I need help,” she pleaded.

The damage was reportedly worsened by strong winds that dislodged part of the St. Francis Catholic Nursery and Primary School building in Idofin, located near the affected homes. 

Residents noted the timing was particularly unfortunate, as they had been preparing for the Christmas season.

Both women have called on the Ekiti State Governor to intervene, urging the government to provide immediate support to prevent further harm.
