The Southwest Zonal Leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has threatened a showdown with the management of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti under the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina as well as the Governing Council of the Institution over the suspension of the Local Chapter Chairman, Mr Benjamin Faleye, and Secretary, Mrs Ayomikun Aluko.
Rising from the FUOYE SSANU Branch Congress presided over by the Southwest Zonal Leadership of the Union on Monday at the main campus, the National Vice President, Dr Abdussobur Salaam, has called for the immediate reinstatement of the suspended officials to avoid further escalation of the matter.
According to Dr Abdussobur Salaam, he said, “We implore the Governing Council to do the needful within the shortest time possible; otherwise, the Union may be compelled to escalate the matter beyond the confines of FUOYE” Salaam stated.
“The Dr Abdussobur Salaam led SSANU Southwest National President, called on the Management under the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, and the Governing Council of the University under Senator Victor Udoma Egba’s supervision, to cease force of antagonism against our Union.

“They implore the Council of the University to sue for peace on this matter so that the image of the University is not further tainted or tarnished in respect of the matter.”
The National Vice President emphasised that Faleye and Aluko acted on behalf of the Union.
He added, “We call on the Management and the Governing Council of the University to immediately cease all disciplinary procedures in respect to the Chairman of SSANU, Ben Faleye, and the Secretary, Ayomikun Aluko, who have acted on behalf of the Union in the various matters that we have brought before them.

“The Zonal Executive Council also implores the Vice Chancellor to ensure that he acts in good faith on all matters in respect of SSANU, pointing out that the Zonal and National leadership of the Union have seen actions that appear not to be in good faith and as such, would not want the matters to escalate any further than it is presently”.
Earlier, the officials were suspended for signing a communiqué issued after the Union’s Congress held on the 24th of November, 2024 with the Registrar of the Institution, Mr Ibrahim Mufutau physically in attendance.
The Union’s communiqué accused the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Fasina, of “sexually harassing and victimising the University’s staff members.”

However, in a suspension letter dated December 9, 2024, and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr Mufutau Ibrahim, the University described the allegations as “unsubstantiated.”
The letter, obtained by reporters, stated, “In line with the Regulations Governing the Conditions of Service of Senior Staff in the University, the Governing Council has directed that your appointment be suspended from the University with immediate effect and shall subsist until and pending the determination of the case against you.”
