Tinubu Appoints New Military Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has announced changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs, by appointing new leaders to key positions. 

First on it was General Olufemi Oluyede was appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa, while Major-General W. Shaibu takes over as Chief of Army Staff. 

Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke and Rear Admiral I. Abbas have been named Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Naval Staff, respectively. 

Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, Mr Sunday Dare 

on Friday and made available to newsmen, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedicated service and leadership, charging the new appointees to uphold professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.

According to Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, “the President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

The changes, effective immediately, are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the security sector and improve coordination among the services, amid speculation of possible coup attempts and escalating security challenges across the country.
