Tinubu’s FEC Approves ₦787.14 Billion For Road Projects, Unveils New Policies

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led  Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved a total sum of N787.14 billion for new road projects covering 13 States across the Country and made new public policies to boost the Country’s economy and infrastructures. 

According to reports, the projects include the Akure-Eta-Ogbese-Iju-Ekiti-Ikere-Ado-Ekiti road, Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna dual carriageway, and the Maiduguri-Monguno road, among others.

Additionally, the Council approved a draft bill to establish the National Cocoa Management Board (NCMB), aimed at improving Nigeria’s global cocoa market share and enhancing farmer welfare. The board will oversee plantation development, regulate the market, and provide soft credit to farmers.

The FEC also adopted Nigeria’s 10-year National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy 2025-2034, which seeks to harness the Country’s 853 km coastline for economic growth. The policy is expected to attract private sector investments and promote economic development.

Also, the Council approved the National Integrated Electricity Policy (NIEP), which will modernize Nigeria’s power sector by addressing infrastructure gaps, supporting renewable energy, and strengthening regulation.

The “Nigeria First” policy was also unveiled, requiring all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize Nigerian-made goods and services. Where no local alternatives exist, agencies must secure Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) waivers, and contracts will mandate technology transfer and capacity-building.

Other key decisions taken at the meeting include Nigeria’s full membership in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the swearing-in of two new Permanent Secretaries and 12 new Commissioners for the National Assembly Service Commission.

These decisions are expected to promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the lives of Nigerians.
