Concerned citizens, commuters, and stakeholders have issued an appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to initiate immediate repair works on the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa Expressway.

The critical highway, which connects key towns in Oyo, Osun, and Ondo States, has deteriorated significantly over the past year, posing serious risks to road users.

Chief Abiola Falayajo, a concerned citizen, lamented the expressway’s condition, stating that it has become a source of pain and concern for commuters, businesses, and transporters.

The road’s poor state has led to frequent accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and tragic loss of lives.

Despite being awarded for repairs in 2024, with supervision by the Oyo and Osun States Field Office of the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI) Phase II program, work has been abandoned with less than 5% completion.

The highway was also included in the 2024 appropriation budget for emergency repairs.

Chief Falayajo appealed to President Tinubu to direct the Federal Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to prioritize the reconstruction and maintenance of the expressway.

He emphasized that swift action would prevent further loss of lives, enhance economic activities, improve regional connectivity, and restore public confidence in governance.
