Critical Questions Ekiti Labour Movements Should Ask Governor Oyebanji, Not Only Salaries, Promotion Matters

Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s remarks at the 2025 Udiroko Festival, cautioning “detractors” against discrediting the Federal Government on the bad state of federal roads in Ekiti completely missed the real issue at hand. Ekiti people are not against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; they are simply asking Governor Oyebanji (BAO) to account for the humongous federal allocations and intervention funds that have accrued to Ekiti in close to three years of his government.

Records show that Ekiti State has received over ₦400 billion from federal allocations, in addition to the ₦50 billion intervention fund granted to all 36 states earlier this year by President Tinubu and intervention funds from development partners running to 100 billions. The critical question remains: What has Governor Oyebanji done with these funds? Where are the tangible projects? When will he be inviting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commission project in Ekiti State?

Other governors across the federation have shown leadership and responsibility by deploying federal allocations and intervention funds to execute impactful projects for their people, including the construction of federal roads in their States..

In Oyo State, for example, Governor Seyi Makinde has delivered over 100 kilometers of federal roads in the last six years.

In Abia State, Governor Alex Otti has constructed over 50 kilometers of federal roads linking Rivers State in less than two years.

In Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sanni has commissioned two overhead bridges and several federal roads in less than two years.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has continued massive rehabilitation of federal roads across the state.

In March 2025, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the reconstruction of 11 federal roads in just one single day!

Even in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke is currently dualising the Ilesha federal road. The list goes on and on.

If these Governors could do so much with the same federal allocations and intervention funds, why is Ekiti under Governor Oyebanji lagging behind? Why is the Governor busy delivering speeches and looking for endorsement everywhere instead of delivering critical projects that will impact the people positively?

Governor Oyebanji should stop abusing the intelligence and sensibilities of Ekiti people. He should name and show us the roads or projects he has commissioned in three years that can stand side by side with the projects of his counterparts in other States.

The truth is that Ekiti has become unlucky under his leadership at a time when states are enjoying unprecedented increases in federal allocations — rising by over 400 percent.

This is why the people are disillusioned. This is why questions are being asked and raised. Instead of insulting his critics and hiding behind President Tinubu’s name, Governor Oyebanji should come clean on his stewardship. Ekiti people cannot be deceived forever.

A governor who cannot be accessed by his Commissioners or appointees, who avoids accountability, and who thrives on propaganda is not what Ekiti deserves. If this is what three years look like, then another four years of Oyebanji would be nothing short of a complete disaster for the State.

The Governor should come clean and show us the gigantic achievements he parades in the air.
