Ekiti Political Group Berates INEC Over Plot Against PDP

Ekiti political group known as Ekiti Liberation Agenda, ELA, through the former Chairman of Ado Ekiti local government area, Honourable Mrs Omotunde Fajuyi has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over plot to prevent the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede from participating in the governorship election in Ekiti State scheduled to hold on June 20th, 2026.

Omotunde Fajuyi expressed concerns over what she described as growing political manipulation in Ekiti State, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant authorities to act in the interest of democracy and development.

‎Speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital on Monday, Fajuyi said Ekiti had not experienced the level of hardship and stagnation currently facing the state, despite increased financial allocations coming to the present administration. 

She argued that politics should serve as a catalyst for development, warning that actions that undermine credible leadership choices could further stall the state’s progress.

‎Fajuyi who specifically faulted the exclusion of Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party from the governorship candidates’ list, explained that no clear reasons were given as she described the aspirant as a qualified and successful professional, adding that the manner in which his name was omitted by the INEC up till now raises questions about what democracy stands for. 

“You don’t just disqualify the best of our people without explanation,” she maintained.

‎The ELA representative who expressed concern over INEC’s omission of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate from the published list, claimed that the fact that the Primary which led to his emergence as the Party’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in the State was free, fair and well monitored by the electoral body. 

According to her, there were allegations that external influence was being exerted on INEC, a claim she stressed was based on information available to her group. “Ekiti is not a dormant State, and should not be treated as one,” Fajuyi declared.

‎She maintained that her intervention was not partisan, noting that she no longer belong to any political party. 

“This is beyond APC, PDP or any other party. It is an Ekiti issue,” adding that leadership choices should be based on competence rather than political imposition.

‎Responding to questions on the timing of the intervention and the INEC timetable for party substitution, Fajuyi said the matter was already before the court and expressed confidence that justice would prevail saying  that ELA had received assurances from relevant officials that the situation would be rectified, while legal steps were also being pursued.

‎Fajuyi concluded by appealing to President Bola Tinubu and other national stakeholders to take cognizance of developments in Ekiti State, warning that continued silence could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions. 

“We will not resort to violence, but we will continue to speak out,” she said, insisting that Ekiti deserved fairness, transparency and genuine development.
