In a public notice issued by his media office, the Commission disclosed that unscrupulous individuals falsely registered the numbers in the Chairman’s name and have been using them to solicit contracts, make fraudulent financial requests, and carry out other criminal activities.

The Commission warned that the phone lines do not belong to Dr. Yusuf and have no connection whatsoever with the NPC. It advised the general public, associates, stakeholders, and friends of the Chairman to disregard any calls, messages, or correspondence from the numbers.

The statement urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with anyone claiming to represent the NPC Chairman through the fraudulent lines. It emphasized that any legitimate communication from the Chairman would come through officially recognized channels of the Commission.

According to the notice, the Commission has already taken steps to report the matter to security agencies, trace the perpetrators, and block the fake lines. Authorities have commenced investigations to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible.

The NPC described the development as a deliberate attempt to exploit the reputation of the Chairman for criminal gain and cautioned the public against falling victim to cyber impersonation schemes.

Dr. Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of his duties, stressing that he would never authorize unofficial requests for contracts or financial transactions through private phone numbers.

The statement, signed by Stanley Onyeka Nwosu, Special Adviser on Media to the NPC Chairman, urged anyone who receives suspicious communication linked to the numbers to report immediately to appropriate security authorities for prompt action.
