Ijebu-Ode Rape Case: Ogun Police React To Petition By Two Civil Society Group

The Ogun State Police Command has officially reacted to the petition forwarded to it by two Civil Society Group namely the Safer Society for Children, SSC, Foundation and the Elegant Nurses Forum, ENF, regarding an alleged rape incidence involving a female student at Ijebu – Ode in Ogun State recently.
According to the Police reaction, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi and made available to newsmen on Sunday, it was revealed that the four suspects namely
Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul and Adewusi Qudus had been formally charged to court, with the judiciary already handling the matter.
Babaseyi explained that, before charging the four suspects to court, proper investigation of the alleged rape incidence which occured in Ijebu – Ode was conducted professionally as the occasion demands.
Contrary to the petition by the two Civil Society Group that the rape victim was influenced and intimidated, DSP Babaseyi clarified that, at no point was the victim compromised.
Explaining further, Babaseyi said the Ogun State Police Command throughout the period of the investigation ensured that all the necessary requirements needed to unravel the hidden facts were diligently carried out, citing the usage of medical examinations records, evidence collection, and proper documentation strictly adhered to.
The PPRO stated that the allegations by the two petitioners that the Police failed to protect the victim, but exposing her to further harm and humiliation were not in good faith.
He revealed that the officers of the Ogun State Police Command in charge of the case acted professionally instead, prioritizing the victim’s safety, dignity, and rights throughout the investigation.
DSP Babaseyi further stated that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State has instituted an investigation into the claims raised in the petition.
Babaseyi further added that, the Command remains open to verifiable facts, assuring to act decisively if any breach of duty is established, reinforcing transparency and accountability.
The Commissioner of Police however urged any member of the public to come forward with credible information to assist in the investigation.
It would however be recalled how
the Safer Society for Children, SSC, Foundation and the Elegant Nurses Forum, ENF, earlier raised concerns in a petition released on Sunday, accusing officers at the Igbeba Police Divisional Headquarters of failing to adequately protect the victim and her family after the alleged incident.
According to the petition, the groups claimed that police officers breached confidentiality by allegedly disclosing the victim’s residential address, a development they said exposed the family to intimidation from relatives of the suspects.
The organisations also alleged that the suspects’ families attempted to pressure and bribe the victim’s relatives into silence, describing the development as a serious betrayal of trust by those responsible for enforcing the law.
The petition identified four suspects — Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul and Adewusi Qudus — and demanded their immediate investigation and prosecution, alongside a probe into the conduct of officers involved in the case.
