Lagos — PDP Elder Bode George Hails Tinubu Over State Police Push

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over moves toward the establishment of State Police in Nigeria.

“I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immensely for bringing the State Police. It is very very good and makes me happy,” George said in a statement attributed to him.

George, a longtime advocate for devolved policing, has consistently argued that community-based policing is crucial to tackling insurgency and insecurity across the country, and that state police would decentralize powers currently concentrated with the Inspector General of Police.  

The commendation comes amid renewed legislative action on security reform, with reports that President Tinubu recently transmitted a State Police Bill to the National Assembly seeking a constitutional framework for State Police Services.  

George did not elaborate further in the attributed remarks, but has previously maintained that state police is urgently needed in the fight against insecurity.
