ADC Declares Itself Osun’s Fastest-Growing Party, Pledges Issue-Based Governance

OSOGBO — The African Democratic Congress has described itself as the fastest-growing political party in Osun State, promising vision-driven governance and an end to what it calls a “dangerous political trade by barter” between Abuja and Osogbo.

Osun ADC spokesperson, Hon. Nureni Adebisi, made the remarks on Friday at the NUJ Guest Platform held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre, Osogbo.

The session began on a sombre note as Adebisi commiserated with the NUJ Financial Secretary, who received news of a friend’s death shortly after proceedings started. He also praised the NUJ national leadership for its transparency and collaboration with security agencies, and commended the Osun NUJ Council for sustaining the platform as a forum for accountability.

Responding to questions about the ADC’s role as a “third force” in Osun politics, Adebisi said the party, under former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s leadership, was adopted a year and five days ago and has since grown into a “formidable political movement.”

“We have practically become the most popular political party in the state,” he said. “Our politics is built on ideas, discipline, and peaceful engagement, without rancour, violence, thuggery, or unnecessary social media distractions.”

Adebisi said the party’s philosophy draws from Aregbesola’s governance style and is anchored on vision, sound ideas, and progressive leadership. He added that ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salami, has released a detailed blueprint to allow voters assess his plans ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

The agenda, he said, covers non-kinetic security strategies, improved healthcare, environmental protection, workers’ welfare, agricultural revitalisation, job creation, and citizen empowerment. An ADC-led government, he pledged, would maintain regular engagement with residents.

Adebisi faulted ongoing flyover projects in the state, calling them unnecessary and arguing that underpasses would have been more cost-effective.

He urged the media to investigate what he alleged was a “dangerous political trade by barter” between Abuja and Osogbo regarding the state’s lingering local government crisis. He also questioned the “cordial relationship” between Governor Ademola Adeleke and his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, despite their past rivalry.

“How can a sitting governor bow to the man who tormented him throughout his first term?” Adebisi asked. “This is a political arrangement Nigerians deserve to understand.”

In his remarks, Osun NUJ Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, thanked Adebisi for honouring the invitation and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to fairness.

“The platform remains open to all political stakeholders. We will continue to provide fair, balanced, and unbiased coverage of every viewpoint in the public interest,” Aboderin said.

With the August 15, 2026 governorship election approaching, the ADC says it is positioning itself as a credible alternative through its structure, policy proposals, and issue-based campaign.
