NUJ Hosts APC Campaign Spokesman Omowaiye as He Unveils AMBO’s Agenda for Osun

Osogbo — The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council, on Wednesday hosted the Head of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, on its Guest Platform in Osogbo.

The interactive session, held ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, provided an opportunity for journalists to engage a key figure of the APC on the party’s plans and policy direction.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the NUJ, Osun State Council, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, underscored the critical role of the media in deepening democracy. He said it was imperative for journalists to have a proper understanding of the programmes, policies and manifestos of political parties to enable the electorate to make informed choices.

Presenting the agenda of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, Omowaiye compared the performance of the immediate past administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola with that of the incumbent administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

On infrastructure, Omowaiye described the Olaiya Flyover constructed under the Oyetola administration as a durable, high-quality project executed by a reputable contractor. 

He, however, faulted the ongoing flyover projects at Oke-Fia and LAMECO being undertaken by the Adeleke administration, which he described as unnecessary and substandard. 

He assured that an APC government under Oyebamiji would prioritize durable and impactful infrastructure.

He said education would be a major priority of the AMBO administration. He questioned the rationale behind the proposed N130 billion airport project by the current government, arguing that the funds could be better utilized to upgrade educational facilities. 

According to him, allocating N50 million to each of the about 2,600 schools in the state would still be covered by the airport budget.

Omowaiye also listed agriculture as a strategic priority, noting that Oyebamiji, who is a farmer, is committed to transforming the sector to boost food production, create jobs and stimulate economic growth. 

He added that healthcare, tourism and industrialization would receive significant attention, stressing that tourism holds huge potential for economic diversification and revenue generation in the state.

On power supply, he disclosed that work had commenced on the “Light Up Osun” initiative, which he said would become operational before the weekend.

Highlighting the candidate’s experience in public finance, Omowaiye said that during Oyebamiji’s tenure as Commissioner for Finance, Osun maintained a stable financial system, cleared salary arrears and operated for four years without borrowing to pay workers’ salaries.

He also promised quick wins under an APC administration, including the reinstatement of 66 disengaged staff of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, as well as dismissed medical doctors and teachers. 

He said fresh recruitment would be carried out to strengthen the education and health sectors.

On the forthcoming election, Omowaiye reaffirmed the APC candidate’s commitment to a peaceful process, quoting Oyebamiji as saying he “will not march on the blood of anyone to Government House.” He stressed that the party remains committed to issue-based and violence-free campaigns.

The event was part of the NUJ Guest Platform series designed to provide political actors and other stakeholders a platform to engage the media on issues of public interest ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.
