Parks Not Closed: Alowonle-Led NURTW Still Recognized – Osun Govt

The Osun State Government has affirmed that Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle remains the substantive Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state.

Concerning the statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2026 in Osogbo, the government clarified that Governor Ademola Adeleke did not proscribe the union nor dissolve its leadership at any level.

According to the statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi; Alowonle and his executive members across all local governments were duly appointed by the national leadership of the NURTW led by Comrade MC Oluomo in line with the union’s constitution, and as such, there is no leadership vacuum.

The government said its attention was drawn to the misrepresentation of the outcome of the State Security Council meeting held on Wednesday, where it suspended all NURTW activities in motor parks across the state.

The suspension, it explained, was a security measure taken following the activities of hoodlums allegedly led by one Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba.

“The same set of hoodlums has been misinterpreting the directive of the security council to mean that the Governor has dissolved the Alowonle-led NURTW and that has created a vacuum for the inauguration of a caretaker committee to be led by the same notorious Asiri Eniba,” the statement read.

The government stressed that what the Security Council ordered was a temporary suspension of union activities to restore peace, not a dissolution.

“The Governor stated yesterday that the parks are not closed and should not be closed,” the statement added.

It further declared that the Alowonle-led executive remains the only leadership recognized by both the national body of the NURTW and the Osun State Government.

Governor Adeleke has therefore directed security agencies to flush out Asiri Eniba and his gang from all motor parks in the state, noting that they have no legal basis to operate there.

The government assured that as soon as security improves in the parks, the NURTW under Comrade Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle will resume normal operations across the state without hindrance.
